Bill by Markup

Use markup-based billing to automatically calculate bill rates from employee pay rates.

Bill by Markup allows organizations to calculate bill rates by applying a fixed amount or percentage markup to employee pay rates. This provides a simple way to maintain consistent profit margins without manually creating individual bill rates.

Add Markup Bill Rates

To create a markup bill rate:

  1. Navigate to Manage Rates.
  2. Click Add Bill Rates.
  3. Select Markup Bill Rates.

Note: Markup Bill Rates are only available if your system configuration supports Bill by Markup. If this option is not visible, please contact Celayix Support.

Markup bill rates are calculated by adding a markup percentage or amount to the pay rate assigned to the shift. In Manage rates, click Add bill rates and then Markup bill rates

Configure Markup Bill Rates

When creating a markup bill rate, define the following:

  • Sites – Select the site(s) where the markup billing rule will apply.
  • Markup Method – Choose either Percentage or Amount.
  • Markup Value – Enter the markup percentage or fixed amount for each rate type.
  • Effective Date – Select the date the markup should become active.

Once saved, the markup will automatically be applied when calculating bill rates for qualifying shifts.

You need to add the sites for which your markup billing applies, the markup method (percentage or amount), the markup percentage or amount and the effective date)

Enable Bill by Markup at the Site

For a markup bill rate to be used, the site's Bill Rate Rules for Shifts at This Site must be configured as Bill by Markup.

To verify this setting:

  1. Open the site profile.
  2. Navigate to Bill Rates.
  3. Locate Bill Rate Rules for Shifts at This Site.
  4. Select Bill by Markup.

When enabled, the applicable markup bill rates will be available for that site.

As long as a site's Bill rate rules for shifts at this site is set to Bill by markup, then the markup bill rate will present in the site profile

Example: Bill by Markup

In this example:

  • Employee: Brianna Lewis
  • Service: Armed Guard
  • Site: Downtown
  • Employee Pay Rate: $25.00/hour
  • Markup: 50%

The bill rate is calculated as follows:

  • $25.00 × 50% = $12.50
  • $25.00 + $12.50 = $37.50

The resulting Bill Rate for the shift is $37.50 per hour.

This allows the system to automatically calculate customer billing based on the employee's pay rate and the configured markup percentage.

The Downtown site has a 50% markup on regular rates, meaning that if the employee rates is $25.00, the markup rate will be $37.50
